Tips To Improve Your Yard With The Right Landscaping Details

by Tanya Green

Your outdoor space includes your back and front yards surrounding your home, whether it is a townhome, a single-family home, or a manufactured home. When you have a backyard space that is in need of updating with the right landscaping features, you will want to add elements that make the space beautiful and usable for your outdoor enjoyment. The following provides you with some recommendations and guidelines to help you add landscaping to your backyard.

Use Landscape Fabric

Not all of your backyard space is going to be filled with lawn and pavement because you will want to add some variety to your space. Landscaping with bedding areas can provide attractive edges, framed-in spaces, and areas where you can plant flowers, trees, shrubbery, and other types of vegetation to your liking. However, don't always jump to add landscape fabric to the landscape bedding areas, because it may not be necessary for all areas. Make sure you consider the type of vegetation and ground cover you plan to use in the space so you use or omit the landscape fabric barrier.

Landscape fabric is a barrier that will help manage unwanted weed growth and also protect any mulch materials from sinking into the existing soil bed. If you are planning to add in wood mulch or similar material of organic materials that can break down over time, don't cover the soil with landscape fabric but cover the soil with a couple of inches of wood mulch. The wood mulch will naturally decompose over time and add nutrients back to the soil.

If you plan to cover the soil with gravel, rock, or a material that is not going to decompose, apply a layer of landscape fabric. Make sure you secure it onto the soil with landscape fabric stakes and overlap any edges so you help protect against weed growth in your bedding area. Then, cut out a circular opening in the fabric to place each flower, tree, or shrub.

Add in Hardscaping

Hardscaping makes up another element of your attractive landscape design. This may include adding in a patio by your back door, a central backyard paving stone-covered seating area for a backyard fire pit, or you want a meandering walkway made of crushed stone or pea gravel through your vegetable garden.

Be sure you follow the right installation preparation with a good base for the paving materials, whether it is bedding sand or compacted gravel so the hardscaping looks great and lasts for years. It is helpful to hire a professional landscape service to install your hardscape in the correct manner. Then, follow up on your pavement maintenance with weed removal so it continues to look superb.

About Me

Exploring Landscape Setups

Hello, I am Manny Juanez. When I moved into my home, I instantly started to plan out my landscape features. I knew that I wanted a small waterfall leading to a pond for my fish. I also wanted to create a few raised beds around the sitting area by the pond. What I didn't know, however, was that the project would take a lot of manpower and a bit of professional help. My site will explore the process from grading the land to setting up the electrical components. I will also talk about building the garden beds with pavers and other found materials. The information I provide should help you create a beautiful layout in your back or front yards. Come back to my site whenever you need some inspiration.
